As you may be aware, the State Government has announced its intention to keep poker machines in Tasmanian hotels and pubs, and to consult with the Tasmanian community.  There is considerable international and national evidence that demonstrates that poker machines are rigged to win and designed to addict people, and cause considerable harm.

The SARC research  supports these conclusions, and has also shown that Tasmanians do not think poker machines benefit their communities, and want them reduced or removed from local venues.

For this reason, NHT thinks the first question for community consultation must be whether Tasmanians want poker machines to remain in local venues. To help facilitate the public discussion, these events will be held in the three communities hardest hit by poker machine losses.

If you are not from these areas and would like us to host a similar event in your community, please get in touch, and please feel free to share our events widely.

We hope to see you there.
