We are really excited to announce that we’ve confirmed a great Community Development focused key note presentation by Susan Allan to close the first day of conference. This will be a really practical look at community development work – the core of what Houses are all about – and more importantly talk about “how” we do it…. Which isn’t always easy to put into words. Susan’s really down to earth and this will just be a great end to our first day of conference.
Looking through the Triangle Window – Making sense of tricky situations in community development
I am mad for Community Development because I know it works. I’ve seen people from all walks of life achieve more when they work together than they could on their own. But often this people work is tricky!
In this session we’ll explore together how we can use connection as our basic building block for cohesive communities. I’ll also share some of the tools I use to make sense of my work with communities and to answer the question – what on earth do I do next?
Whether you’re a Management Committee member, paid or unpaid worker, I’d like you to leave this session feeling more confident in your own ability to answer the question: – now, what’s my next step and with whom?
Susan Allan’s greatest joy is to see other lives lifted and her best tool for this is developmental practice – working with others on areas of mutual importance.
Trained as a Social Worker, Susan Allan has worked for over 25 years in a variety of direct practice and management roles in four countries, across four regions of the world. The constant – a community development approach and seeking impact that will lift the lives of the most vulnerable. In 2016 Susan founded a community development agency, LIFT Enterprises, as a vehicle to continue this work.
