Security Grants for Neighbourhood Houses!
The Liberal State Government committed $150 000 for safety and security upgrades of Neighbourhood House ($75 000 per year over two years) as part of the election commitments to our network.
The Government has asked NHT to be the conduit for those funds being distributed to Houses via two simple grant rounds.
The pool of $150 000 across our 34 Communities Tasmania-funded Houses allows for $4 414 per House.
Under these grant rounds each House can consider what would best make its staff, volunteers and participants safe. There are four broad areas for these funds:
BUILDING/PHYSICAL ALTERATIONS: e.g. security screens and doors. Outcome: providing a secure and safe working/volunteering environment.
SECURITY MONITORING EQUIPMENT: e.g. security cameras, systems and duress alarms. Outcome: enable staff and volunteers to feel safe and gain assistance when required.
STAFF AND VOLUNTEER TRAINING & SUPPORT: e.g. de-escalation training, aggressive behaviours training. Outcome: provide staff and volunteers with skills to ensure they are safe.
OTHER SECURITY /SAFETY NEEDS: outside the box solutions which meet the needs of your House.
These grants provide the opportunity to add your own funds, to address your identified security and safety concerns. Please indicate this in your application (link to form below).
If more Houses apply this financial year than can be supported with the initial $75 000 applications can automatically be rolled into next year’s process.
Applications open on the 1st December and close on the 7th February 2019.
