Neighbourhood Houses from Rosebery to Geeveston, King Island to Nubeena are inviting everyone to celebrate Neighbourhood House Week 2023.  

Neighbourhood House Week is a nationally celebrated week from the 8th to the 14th of May 2023.  

This year’s theme is “locals connecting locals.” The annual week aims to celebrate and raise awareness of over 1,000 Neighbourhood and Community Houses and Centres across Australia.  

Neighbourhood Houses are places where people come together to support their local community and make a difference in each other’s lives. They foster social connection and promote overall well-being. 

This year's theme could not be anymore more fitting for what Neighbourhood Houses do. Last year Tasmanian Neighbourhood Houses were supported by over 1200 ​volunteers, who alongside Managers and staff worked with over 1400 partners across Tasmania. “Our House volunteers and staff make an amazing contribution to their communities,” said Michael Gordon, acting CEO of Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania’s peak body.  

Neighbourhood House week is a time to reflect and acknowledge what Neighbourhood Houses are, and the work they do.  

“Houses are the backbone of our communities; they offer people everything from a hot cuppa to social activities and generalised support,” said Debbie Smith, Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania Board Chairperson.  

This Neighbourhood House week, Houses are inviting you to celebrate with them. The Network of 35 Neighbourhood Houses across Tasmania will be hosting various activities and events this week, from wellbeing activities to community bake offs and everything in between.
