"Network helps grow resilience in society" - opinion piece in The Mercury, 24 January 2025

The first few weeks of January are a time for new resolutions – for changes, big and small. Neighbourhood Houses are here for Tasmanians all year round – and unlike resolutions that often don’t quite stick, we are dedicated to making long-term positive changes in our communities.

Neighbourhood Houses are places where people come together for support, belonging and purpose as they support their local community and make a real difference in people’s lives.

"Celebrating the neighbourhood helpers who go above and beyond every single day" - opinion piece in The Mercury, 21 September 2024

When severe weather events hit communities around our state three weeks ago, many of us were able to call on the help of our neighbours for everything from a hot cup of tea to a shower, access to internet and shared commiserations.

The recent severe weather events across North and North-West Tasmania brought out the best in our neighbours. Charging phones, sharing hot cuppas, checking on each other; it’s what Tasmanians do.

This week (13-19 May) is national Neighbourhood House Week and a great time to drop by these community hubs to see the power of local people in action.
